Skin Tag, Nevi & Wart Removal

Skin Tags (aka Nevi) are small hanging areas of skin growth which can be seen above the skin surface.

Skin Tag growths consists of loose collagen fibers that become lodged inside thicker areas of the skin. Skin tags are generally benign, non cancerous small tumors of the skin which, other than being unsightly, cause no symptoms.

Skin Tags can appear on any part of your body and both men and women can develop skin tags. They tend to occur more frequently in older people, people who are obese and people who have Type2 diabetes. About 25 percent of people over the age 30 have at least one skin tag. Unlike warts, skin tags are not viral and cannot be passed from one person to another.

Skin Tags are usually found in areas such as;

  • Armpits
  • Groin
  • Thighs
  • Eyelids
  • Neck
  • Face
  • Scrotum
  • Under female breast tissue
Warts are small lumps that often develop on the skin of the hands and feet. Warts vary in appearance and may develop singly or in clusters. Some are more likely to affect particular areas of the body. For example, verrucas are warts that usually develop on the soles of the feet and cause painful discomfort.

Warts are caused by a virus called human papillomavirus, or HPV. These growths are benign, meaning they are not cancerous, and they result from infections in the top layer of the skin.

When someone has a healthy immune system, a wart will often go away on its own. This can take a long time, though. In the meantime, the virus that causes warts can spread to other parts of the body, which may lead to more warts. Treatment can help a wart clear more quickly and prevent them spreading.

Warts are usually found in areas such as;

  • Knees
  • Fingers
  • Feet
  • Genitals
How We Remove Skin Tags & Warts

SkinSense Vanuatu use the latest laser, plasma pen or traditional liquid nitrogen method to perform safe, scar free skin tag and wart removal.

Both the laser and plasma pen use cauterisation (a short burst of intense focused heat) to remove the growth whilst the traditional liquid nitrogen method (cryosurgery) involves spraying a small amount of liquid nitrogen over the skin tag or wart, after which the frozen growth should die before harmlessly falling off.

Please note that we are unable to and will not treat some types of genital warts, especially warts that have established themselves inside the vagina and around the anus. HPV 16 and 18 genital warts are exceptionally high risk HPV subtypes because they are associated with 77% of cervical and 40% of vaginal cancer in women and 90% of anal and 39% of penile cancer in men. If you suspect that you, or your partner, may have genital warts we advise both you and your partner to first consult your doctor, and that you are both tested for other varieties of STD's before seeking treatment from us. As genital warts are extremely contagious you must refrain from all sexual activity, including 'protected' intercourse, till after you are completely free of the warts.

Is The Removal Process Painful

In most instances the removal of a skin tag is not too painful whilst, because warts usually have a root, wart removal can be quite painful.

Your clinician will in any event offer you the choice of numbing the area prior to removal either by applieing a topical numbing cream, or in the case of larger tags and established warts, local anesthetic via small injection.

The longer you allow the wart to establish itself, or allow skin tags to grow, the more painful their removal will be. For your own comfort, and faster healing time, we advise you to seek treatment as soon as possible.

Side Effects of Skin Tag and Wart Removal

Infections and complications are very uncommon with skin tag or wart removal. Some people may develop a small scar on the removal location, which should disappear over time.

Post-Procedure Care

After removing a skin tag or wart apply antibiotic ointment to the affected area as a precaution and do not scratch the area. This lowers the risk of infection and possible side effects. Contact your clinician if the area becomes painful, inflamed or bleeds.

Your clinician's instructions may include keeping the wound dry for at least 48 hours, and then only gently washing the area with soap and water.

Avoid touching the area the skin tag or wart was removed from, ensure it is clean and will not come in contact with any unwanted bacteria.

It is highly recommend to avoid direct sunlight by wearing sunscreen and hats for at least 72 hours after undergoing treatment. This is to prevent hyper pigmentation of the treated skin.

How Many Treatments Are Needed

  • Skin Tags are usually removed with just one treatment.

  • Warts usually require two or three treatments to completely remove them.
